JFNew is a nationally
recognized leader in the natural
treatment of wastewater and
stormwater, utilizing natural
treatment systems and their
inherent biological processes.
We also provide engineering
services to support our work
related to wetlands, lakes,
and streams. Unlike most
engineering firms, JFNew's
engineers have a strong
environmental background to
complement their engineering
expertise. This comes
from their education and
experience, as well as
the constant interaction
with the biological
expertise within our
offices. We pride
ourselves on integrating
and maximizing the
biological functions
within an engineered
system.
JFNew provides
engineering and
biological expertise for
natural treatment of
wastewater. We focus
on utilizing constructed
wetlands and other
natural systems for
treating wastewater.
JFNew has designed
natural treatment systems
throughout the United
States to treat a variety
of waste streams including
domestic and industrial
wastewater, agricultural
runoff, stormwater runoff,
contaminated groundwater,
and landfill leachate. The
volume of projects we have
completed allows us to assess
when a natural system can
provide a cost effective solution.
We utilize this knowledge base
in our initial approach to each
project by first evaluating the
cost effectiveness of a natural
solution. Feasible projects then
proceed through the design
and permitting processes.
Once permits are obtained, the
integration of our Restoration
Management Division, our
Native Plant Nursery, and our
network of contractors ensures
the project is completed as
designed, on time and within
the projected costs.
The close relationship and
interaction between our
engineers and scientists
provides creative, natural
solutions to treat stormwater
runoff. Through our
understanding of the functions
and capabilities of native plants,
soils, hydrology, and other
natural features, stormwater
runoff can be effectively treated
in many applications. These
techniques, often referred to
as Best Management Practices
(BMP's), can be used for
addressing the treatment needs of combined sewer overflows,
impervious surface runoff,
and other stormwater sources
to improve water quality and
reduce runoff quantities.
New regulations are requiring cities and towns to hold new developments and existing large developments to a higher standard for stormwater management. The goal of these regulations is to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff that enters waterways or municipal sewer systems. At JFNew, we can design or install many innovative stormwater management solutions including:
JFNew provides design services relative to the construction and management of wetlands, lakes, and streams. Services include preparation of plans and specifications for dams, levees, water control structures, sediment traps, bioengineered shorelines, and wildlife habitats.
