Lake and Stream Diagnostic Studies

Aquatic Ecology PhotoThe first step in addressing the quality of an aquatic system is identifying the problems. Through a Diagnostic Study, we will collect and analyze the necessary data available. This analysis allows us to understand the complexity that makes up most aquatic systems and often reveals underlying issues in addition to the more obvious ones. Typical tasks of a Diagnostic Study include:

  • Review of Historical Data
  • GIS Watershed Mapping
  • Pollutant Load Modeling
  • Chemical and Biological

Fishery Surveys and Management

Aquatic Ecology PhotoIn addition to providing recreation, a fishery can provide data on the health of an aquatic system. We have the equipment and the experience to collect fisheries data in:

  • Streams
  • Rivers
  • Ponds
  • Lakes

In addition to data collection and interpretation, we can provide management recommendations for restoring and maintaining a healthy, sustainable fishery.

Analysis of Waterbody's Current Condition Utilizing the most advanced technologies available, GIS Mapping is used to integrate this information and understand the watershed's current condition, which is an integral part of identifying potential solutions to improve a lake or stream's water quality.

Water Quality Monitoring and Habitat Assessment

JFNew provides both chemical and biological monitoring and data interpretation to gain a complete understanding of the lake or stream's water quality in developing improvement strategies.

Design - Build

JFNew goes beyond mere consulting. We work with clients to implement projects that have been determined to be feasible and beneficial. Our experience with construction of natural resource projects often allows us to minimize costly design services and move quickly into construction through designbuild processes. This strategy can be applied to any of the following:

  • Slope and Shoreline Stabilization
  • Wetland Restoration
  • Stream Restoration
  • Sediment Control Structures
  • Stormwater Treatment

Stormwater treatment includes diagnosing the source of pollutants, determining the most efficient filtering method and reducing impacts on the receiving waterway.

Project Feasibility Studies

JFNew conducts feasibility studies to ensure that proposed solutions for treating water quality problems in a lake or stream are physically, economically, socially and environmentally viable.

Watershed Management Plans

Our experienced staff works with lake associations, conservancy districts, watershed groups and municipalities to develop sound watershed management plans. These plans are used to meet future project implementation funding requirements for state and federal grant programs.

Grant Writing Assistance

JFNew has helped clients apply for grants to fund numerous projects. Because we have worked with a broad range of projects, we have an extensive database of potential funding sources for natural resource projects. This allows us to help our client find the best opportunities for meeting project goals. Our experience working with these programs also provides us with the knowhow to prepare applications that fit the program's criteria and, therefore, get funded. We are happy to help clients find and apply for local, state and federal program funds available for their projects.
